Deposits now being taken.

For those that are not aware; Truk Lagoon is located in Micronesia in the Pacific. During WW2 it was a major naval anchorage for the Japaneese navy [we actually supplied guns to protect Truk post WW1! but that's another story]. In February 1944 the Americans carried out 'Operation Hailstorm', an areial bombardment that lasted 3 days and resulted in over 45 ships [including 8 ocean liners] and 275 areoplanes being detroyed. Diving wise, choice is almost unlimited with most of the wrecks laying in 20-60m of warm clear water it is truly a wreck divers paradise offering something for every level of diver.

Dates for the trip; We will land in Truk on the 16th Nov and fly out on the 29th Nov.

Costs include 12 days diving and 13 nights accommodation in twin share en suite rooms with a sea view is $2895 [this works out at £1930 based on an exchange rate of $1.5 to the GBP], transfers to and from hotel from the airport in Truk, advanced medical emergency kit, onsite Hyperbaric Physician, weight belts and lead, ALL air fills, 2 x standard cylinders (80cf/11L).  This is the 2011 rate, I have chased them for a date when the 2012 rate will become available so I hope to have a definite price soon; I have been told not to expect a big change though.

Flights - the first quote for flights has come in at £1380 which I am quite pleased with but i am working on to try and get better, this included 2 pieces of luggage at 23kg each.

Additional costs.

Food, food is not included in the diving/accommodation package, it is suggested to budget $450-$500 [£300-£350 at $1.5 to the GBP] for this.

Cylinder hire, every diver has access to 2 x 80cft [11 litre] single cylinders included in the package, so if you are a single cylinder diver you are sorted; if you are a twinset or CCR diver these cylinders become your stage/bailout tanks [they will be rigged for you].
Twinset hire, manifolded twinsets can be supplied at $15 a day [£10 per day at $1.5...], this MUST be arranged in advance.
Rebreather bottles, both 2l and 3l sets are available at $10 per bottle per day, so $240 for the trip or £160 [based on $1.5...], these MUST be arranged in advance.

Diving consumables

Oxygen, currently $0.06 per litre = 4pence per litre [at $1.5...]
Helium, currently $0.15 per litre = 10 pence per litre [at $1.5...]
Sofnalime, currently $15 per kilo, this comes in the 4.5kg tubs and is purchased by the tub which = £45 per tub [at $1.5 ...]

There is plenty of all the above to allow us to use the kit we need, so long as we plan in advance.

Tipping, it is suggested to charge everything to your room and leave a tip at the end of your stay, its a US based environment so this in the norm [how un British!]; a total of $200 for gratuities is recommended.

Medical insurance, it is a MANDATORY REQUIREMENT to have DAN dive insurance, there is a chamber in Truk and we will have hyperbaric physician with us.

Now the most important part the holiday! We will be based at the Blue Lagoon Hotel and Dive Centre; the package includes 2 dives per day [though more can be booked if desired] but to ensure everybody gets the MOST out of their diving the boats will be organised putting divers together that want to do similar dives.
Its important to mention that this trip is open to all, whether you are a single cylinder, twinset or CCR diver we can cater for you and in a way that you ALL get to enjoy the type and style of diving you enjoy.
There is NO limit on your dive times, if you want to complete a 2 hour dive on your CCR then no problem, but if you are on a single cylinder then we'll arrange other boats so you are not waiting around for other divers etc.

There may also be an option for a 7 day diving package, I'm waiting for details on this.

Booking
To book will require a deposit and completed booking form, once I have received the required number of deposits [10 people minimum] the trip is a goer and the deposits will be paid confirming your spot, if the minimum numbers are not reached then I will return your deposit [by an agreed date]. As soon as the window for flights opens I will confirm the best deal and make a group booking, you will then be able to contact the travel agent to pay for your flight. We then meet at the airport and have a great trip to Truk!

I hope all that makes sense but if you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me.

I'm planning the trip so far in advance to give folk time to save up but I will need to confirm my spots to secure the booking in advance, the deposit is required to secure the spot with the final balance due 12 weeks prior to the trip.
