Open Circuit Technical Courses
Start your tech journey with us!
Open Circuit technical will be where most people step out of the traditional recreational realm for the first time, the courses below can open up some of the worlds best dive sites to you.
Once you're comfortable in your tech rig, we can help you decide what training route best suits the sort of diving you want to do - whether you want to dive deeper for longer with more advanced trimix training, head into caves and/or wrecks or improve your platform in the water to aid your photography, these are the foundations you will build on.

Training is designed and delivered to help you every step of the way. We want you to be able to enjoy the same great diving that we do and will do everything possible to help you achieve that.

COMPREHENSIVE TRAINING...
Our courses will not be the shortest route to the next 'qualification card' and will not be the cheapest. What they will be, though, is comprehensive, well paced and not overcrowded.

Most courses begin with a classroom session - this will be made up of theory and equipment preparation/configuration. Whilst 'time in the water' is critical to any good course, entering the water under prepared is counter productive. Dive sites are selected to offer conditions suitable for the level of training being undertaken.

Building upon solid foundations...
Open Circuit Technical training has historically been the nucleus where all exploration dives can be traced to.

Whilst it is possible to begin on the tech diving path on a CCR there is massive benefit to beginning with open circuit training and for many open circuit training will enable them to complete all the dives they want to. Many open circuit courses provide skills that are also transferable into rebreather training.

Every year we run dives and trips suitable for varying qualification levels where you can get out and use your-new-found skills.

One of the great-misconceptions that is particularly common these days is that you need a rebreather for technical diving - this is simply not the case.
Self-Sufficient Diver
Self-Sufficient Diver
This is designed to introduce you to twinset diving or alternatively polish the skills of a 'new to twinset' diver.

Run over 2 days there is no requirement to achieve significant depth progression so we can focus on core skills. As you will generally be new to your equipment we begin with a dry session sizing and configuring your equipment to your needs (we can help with equipment supply). The dry session will also include a run through of skills, trim and propulsion advice.

Core development is centred-around making sure you have a stable platform in the water, out of air drills, valve shutdown procedures and DSMB deployment.

Entry requirements are Rescue Diver (or equivalent) and above with experience of 30m (ish) diving.

This is an excellent foundation to further twinset technical training.
Advanced Nitrox
Advanced Nitrox & Decompression Procedures
For many people this will be their first ‘tech’ class, though if you are new to twinset diving it is well worth considering the Self Sufficient Diver course above as a first step.

This course is designed to take the recreational diver not accustomed to decompression diving or the diver with limited-decompression diving and introduce a deco/stage cylinder to increase the speed and efficiency of that decompression.

You will cover twinset diving techniques, deco/stage cylinder handling, out of gas scenarios, loss of decompression gas, decompression techniques, dive planning and much more.

Running over 3 or 4 days and resulting in either a 42m or 45m qualification (IANTD/TDI) you will be well placed to enjoy masses of diving. Skills learnt here will be the foundation for wherever your diving takes you.

Entry requirements are Rescue Diver and above with basic Nitrox (or equivalent) and experience of 30m diving.
Advanced
Recreational Trimix
Advanced
Recreational Trimix
A popular entry point into technical diving, for those already comfortable diving in their twinset.

This course will push beyond the limits of the Advanced Nitrox program utilising helium-based mixtures to reduce narcosis and a deco/stage cylinder to improve and accelerate the decompression.

You will cover twinset diving techniques, deco/stage cylinder handling, out of gas scenarios, loss of decompression gas, decompression techniques, dive planning and much more.

Running over 4 or 5 days we begin with classroom and equipment preparation before moving onto shallow skills dives and depth progression. Successful completion will certify the diver to dive to 51m.

Entry requirements are Rescue Diver and above with basic Nitrox (or equivalent), familiarity with 30m diving and some twinset experience.

In many ways this course makes more sense than the Advanced Nitrox course, if you are new to twinset diving a good option is the Self Sufficient course followed by Advanced Recreational Trimix.
Normoxic Trimix
Normoxic Trimix
Training at this level will open up masses of world class diving in the UK and beyond.

Whilst open circuit trimix diving is less common than it used to be, it is still a great choice for divers planning occasional deep trimix dives. If you are planning extensive diving in this depth range then please talk to us about rebreather options.

Diving at this level will require carrying a second deco/stage bottle therefore initial skills focus on managing extra equipment and procedures whilst perfecting core twinset techniques, out of gas scenarios, loss of decompression gas, decompression techniques, dive planning and much more.

Running over 5 or 6 days it is possible to complete training at the Normoxic 60m level or the Normoxic + 70m level. Training begins with classroom and equipment preparation before quickly moving into shallow skills dives and depth progression.

Entry requirements are Advanced Nitrox, Advanced Nitrox & Deco Procedures, Advanced Recreational Trimix or equivalent with experience at that level.
We are all about diving!
